Welcome to Humanists Doing Good!

We are a nonprofit and nonreligious community of compassionate and rational people doing good for the sake of good. We are people learning, socializing and volunteering together. We are always looking for more people to join our cause and invite you to learn more about our organization and our beliefs. You just may be surprised to learn that great minds such as Albert Einstein have shared our vision.

Humanists Doing Good focuses on improving our lives by improving the lives of others.

Humanists Doing Good will be heading outside and meeting at Sherwood Park for a potluck picnic and friendly game of ultimate frisbee for those who are interested in playing. If you don't know how to play ultimate frisbee, don't worry, many of us don't and will be learning, laughing, and just having some fun. Our volunteers have put in some really hard work lately and we want to give everyone a break and a chance to talk and further get to know one another. We'd also like to welcome new members and encourage those of you who have been shy so far to come out and meet everyone.
Everyone is asked to please bring a dish to share. It helps a lot if people let us know what they plan to bring and how many will be attending so that we have adequate amounts of everything for everyone. Facebook users can RSVP via the event that has been posted there. Others can email us or give us a call to let us know you'll be attending and what dish you would like to bring.
If you have questions or have trouble finding us, please feel free to call us at 970-623-2598.

We are happy to report that the effort to cleanup an area known as "The Point" was a tremendous success. Humanists Doing Good volunteers pitched in to carry trash and debris that had accumulated over many years as a result of the longterm camp of the homeless at the confluence of the Colorado and Gunnison rivers. Three large roll-off dumpsters were provided and filled with materials from the camps. Numerous truckloads of waste were also removed from the site by a number of volunteers from different groups in the valley. Our thanks go out to the Homeless Coalition and Homeward Bound for their efforts to coordinate the cleanup effort. The cleanup proved to be a very rewarding experience for our volunteers and the achieved results were remarkable. The progress was actually so rapid that the community cleanup which was scheduled to last the entire weekend was instead complete on Saturday. Our volunteers and staff were also visible on local news broadcasts and in the Daily Sentinel newspaper. It proved inspirational to see so many people from different parts of our community collaborating to solve a problem at the junction of our rivers. We're hoping to obtain a good photo of the scene before the cleanup so that people can have a better appreciation for the following photos of our volunteers and the end results:

Humanists Doing Good has some more good news to report! Arrow is a companion dog that belongs to a local elderly lady. The lady was formerly a resident at the Homeward Bound homeless shelter but has become self sufficient. However, when Arrow fell ill and was in pain, she did not have the means to pay for Arrow's required veterinary care. Arrow was in need of significant dental surgery and this is where Humanists Doing Good stepped forward to provide funds for the treatment of Arrow. We're happy to report that Creature Comforts has performed the dental surgery and provided previous care which HDG also paid for and Arrow is on the road to full recovery. Go Arrow! Special thanks to everyone who helped make this possible in one way or another.
