June 21st, 2015 - Black Lives Matter Vigil

In light of the recent tragedy in Charleston, SC, this Sunday (June 21st) at 7:00 pm, there will be a Black Lives Matter vigil held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ (N. 5th St. & Kennedy). Everyone is invited to join in remembering and honoring those who lost their lives in the African Methodist Episcopal Church—and all those affected by racism. It is intended to be an event to allow people from all faiths and the nonreligious to join in a moment of remembrance and reflection. Humanists Doing Good has been asked to be a co-sponsor of the event and to briefly speak. All are welcome to attend.

June 20th, 2015 - Documentary: An Honest Liar

An Honest Liar is a feature documentary about the world-famous magician, escape artist, and world-renowned enemy of deception, James ‘The Amazing’ Randi. The film brings to life Randi’s intricate investigations that publicly exposed psychics, faith healers, and con-artists with quasi-religious fervor. A master deceiver who came out of the closet at the age of 81, Randi created fictional characters, fake psychics, and even turned his partner of 25 years, the artist Jose Alvarez, into a sham guru named Carlos. But when a shocking revelation in Randi’s personal life is discovered, it isn’t clear whether Randi is still the deceiver – or the deceived.

Feel free to bring any food or drink you may wish to have available. We'll discuss the film afterward during any remaining time.

This showing is intended for participants of Humanists Doing Good and is not open to the general public.

June 18th, 2015 - Volunteer at HDG Farmers Market Booth

Humanists Doing Good will be setting up our first booth of the year at the Grand Junction Farmers Market on Main Street. Volunteers are needed for shifts throughout evening. If there is a particular time window you are available, please let us know. Volunteers help with setting up our booth, staffing our table and taking down our booth at the end of the evening. We are happy to partner new volunteers with experienced volunteers and no previous experience is required.  Help us reach out to our community and inform people about all the great things we do.

This particular farmers market promises to be our most entertaining one yet and we plan to have a special mascot helping out for the first time.
