Jun. 7th, 2014 - UniversiTea with Guest Speakers

We're excited to announce our new primary meeting location at the Garden Room of The Commons. We'd like to invite everyone to come and see our new location and join us for UniversiTea with two guest speakers. What is UniversiTea? It's an opportunity for intellectual and often philosophical discussion on challenging topics in a relaxed environment over a cup of tea (and sometimes snacks). Local speech and debate stars, Zoë Ray and Wade Toothaker, will be performing speeches for us to seed the discussion. Zoë will perform a hilarious comedic response to Christopher Hitchens' claim that women aren't funny (http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2007/01/hitchens200701). Wade will speak about the decline of American society. After the speeches we will then discuss the topics raised.

We'll provide a variety of hot teas for everyone and people are welcome to bring treats to share with others.

When: Saturday, June 7th at 10:00 am

Where: Garden Room at The Commons (625 27 1/2 Road)

How to find our new meeting location:

The Garden Room is located on the west side of The Commons building at 625 27 1/2 Road. The easiest way to find the Garden Room is to turn down Hermosa Ave. as you reach The Commons and pull into the south parking lot. You will see the Garden Room marked on the left side of the building from the parking lot.

May 24th, 2014 - Hiking No Thoroughfare Canyon

Join us as we take a guided hike along a portion of the No Thoroughfare Trail in the Colorado National Monument. We'll be hiking approximately 2 miles to the location of the first waterfall and then returning for a total hiking distance of about 4 miles. The hike is fairly easy, but do take the distance into account when preparing. We'll be led by our Board Chair, Adam Hurst, who is also a park ranger. Please bring anything you may require for the duration of the hike (sunscreen, water, food, sturdy footwear, etc.) .

We plan to park at the Tabeguache Trailhead parking lot just off of Monument Road (same place we hiked the Pet-e-Kes Trail) and then we'll carpool into the Colorado National Monument from that point. Unfortunately, we will not be able to take dogs on the hike this time.

When: Saturday, May 24th at 4:00 pm (arrive early or on time to avoid being left behind)

Where: Park at Tabeguache Trailhead Parking Lot (lunch loops) just off of Monument Road before reaching the Colorado National Monument.

May 17th, 2014 - BBQ Potluck & Annual Meeting

Join Humanists Doing Good as we celebrate another year, eat some barbequed food, reflect on our past year's accomplishments, acknowledge the efforts of our volunteers and have some fun. We encourage everyone involved in HDG or thinking about getting involved to attend this yearly gathering. It's important for people to begin to realize how many of us are out there and what we are capable of when we work together. That's a goal that is only possible when we show up, support one another, and make our presence known. Your ideas for the future are welcomed. We encourage people to wear their HDG shirts of any color.

We'll be sure to bring the HDG kickball/four square ball for anyone who would like to play. If you want to bring an outdoor game to possibly play, please feel free to do so.

We ask that everyone bring a dish to share and please indicate what you plan to bring by leaving a message below or contacting us so that we have all the basics covered.
Consider bringing a camp chair or blanket to sit on in the shade.

If you can help with setup, would like to be our grill master, can bring condiments or think you might be able to help in any other way, please let us know. We look forward to seeing everyone!

When: Saturday, May 17th at noon

Where: Lincoln Park (12th and North)
